The Obligation of Seeking Knowledge: Women in the Classical Tradition
The Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ declared:
“ุทูููุจู ุงููุนูููู ู ููุฑููุถูุฉู ุนูููู ููููู ู ูุณูููู ู” โ “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah 224 โ Sahih)
The Mother of the Believers, ‘A’ishah (radiyAllahu ‘anha), was one of the greatest jurists, narrators of Hadith, and scholars in Islamic history. Urwah ibn az-Zubayr testified: “I did not see anyone more knowledgeable in jurisprudence, medicine, or poetry than ‘A’ishah.”
At IQS, we believe that when a Muslim woman learns authentic Deen, she purifies her own worship, protects her household from theological innovations and superstitions, and raises children with grounded Islamic character (Tarbiyah).
