In the Quran, Allah reminds us of the transitory nature of worldly gains in Surah Al-Hadid (57:20), “Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children.”
Finding Allah: The Path to True Fulfillment

In a hadith narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever seeks Allah’s pleasure at the cost of people’s displeasure, Allah will be pleased with him and will cause people to be pleased with him. And whoever seeks people’s pleasure at the cost of Allah’s displeasure, Allah will be displeased with him and will cause displeasure for him among the people.” (Ibn Majah)

The Balance of Duniya and Deen
