At the Institute of Quran and Sunnah (IQS), we strive to help our community deepen their understanding and connection to these blessed days. What should a Muslim do during the Days of Tashreeq?
Allah instructs us to remember Him during these days.
Allah says:
“And remember Allah during the ‘appointed’ Days” [al-Baqarah 2:203]
Ibn Umar (radiyallahu anhumaa) said the “appointed days” are the Days of Tashreeq.
The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“They are days of eating, drinking, and remembering Allah.” (Saheeh Muslim 1141)
How should we remember Allah during the Days of Tashreeq?
1. Make Duaa:
- LOTS and LOTS of it.
- The 11th of Dhul Hijjah, the Day of Al-Qarr, is when duaa is more likely to be accepted.
- The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The greatest days before Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala are Yawm an-Nahr (the Day of Sacrifice), then Yawm al-Qarr,” which is the day after.” (Abu Dawood 1765; saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood 6/14)
2. Say the Takbeeraat:
- Continue saying the Takbeeraat until after Asr of the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.
- Say them loud, clear, and often.
- Say them after every prayer.
- Umar (radiyallahu anhu) used to say the Takbeeraat in Mina in his tent, and the people would join in, causing Mina to echo with Takbeer. (Lataa’if Al Mārif’ 503-504)
3. Read the following duaa frequently:
- رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
- This duaa is praised in the Quran: “Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!” [Surah al-Baqarah: 201]
4. Eat, drink, and celebrate:
- Do NOT fast during these days.
- The Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The days of Mina are days of eating, drinking, and remembering Allah.” (Saheeh Muslim 1141) - “Do not fast on these days, for they are the days of eating, drinking, and remembering Allah.” (Ahmad, 10286; saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 3573)
