Dispelling the Myth: Why ‘Be a Human First’ Goes Against Islamic Principles

Islam is a complete way of life that defines the parameters of individual and collective conduct. In the present times, there is a common sentiment that is often expressed, “Be a human first.” This statement implies that before being a follower of any faith, one should prioritize humanity. However, from an Islamic perspective, this statement is not only incorrect but also quite misleading. Islam itself teaches and emphasizes on the principles of humanity, good behavior, and fulfilling the rights of both humanity and Allah.

In the Quran, Allah emphasizes the importance of being a good human being, fulfilling the rights of others, being kind, and showing empathy. Islam not only teaches these principles but also provides guidelines for human behavior that cover every aspect of life. Islam promotes justice for all individuals, regardless of their race, religion, or social status.

Furthermore, Shariah, the Islamic law derived from the Quran and the Hadith, serves as a comprehensive guide for Muslims on what is considered good and bad. It’s based on the understanding that only God, with His infinite knowledge, knows what is truly beneficial or harmful for humanity. Therefore, adhering to Shariah is not just a matter of religious practice but also a way of ensuring the well-being of individuals and society as a whole while fulfilling the rights of Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself stated, “The most beloved of people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people.”

Islam defines humanity as the essence of being a Muslim. In Islam, being a human means fulfilling the rights of Allah, including worship and obedience, and the rights of other human beings. It means showing compassion and empathy to others, treating them with kindness and respect, and being just in all actions.

Therefore, the statement “Be a human first” is a misleading one. Islam defines humanity itself which includes good behavior, and the rights of Allah as the core principles of faith. Being a Muslim means being a good human being, fulfilling the rights of Allah and other human beings, and showing compassion and kindness towards all individuals. Islam promotes good behavior and justice for all, regardless of their faith or ethnicity.

In conclusion, Islam defines humanity, good behavior, and the rights of Allah as the core principles of faith, with Shariah guiding what is good and bad based on God’s wisdom. Being a Muslim means being a good human being first and foremost, fulfilling the rights of Allah and other human beings, and showing compassion and empathy towards all individuals.
