Why Doesn’t Allah Seem to Be Answering My Dua?

You’ve been making sincere dua (supplication) to Allah for a long time. Despite continuously begging 🙏, crying 😢, and asking Him 👆, there seems to be no response. Why does your dua feel unanswered? It’s common to wonder “why?” in times like these. This article explores reasons behind the apparent lack of response to dua, and how to deal with it in faith and patience.

Allah Always Responds to Sincere Dua in One of Three Ways

Though it may seem like there’s no response, in reality, Allah always answers supplications made sincerely. It just may not be in the way we expect. There are three main ways Allah responds:

  1. Allah grants exactly what was asked for in the dua. 🤲
  2. He averts some harm or difficulty because of the dua. 🙏
  3. Allah saves the response for the Day of Judgment when the believer will need it most. 🕋

The Prophet (SAW) explained this in a hadith (At-Tirmidhi). Therefore, we should persist patiently and gratefully in dua, which is a beautiful act of worship. ☪️

Avoid Despair When Dua Seems Unanswered 🙅

Shaitan tries his best to plant doubts and make us lose hope when dua seems unanswered. Falling into despair is the way of those astray, while Allah reminds us: “And who despairs of the Mercy of his Lord except those who are astray?” (Quran 15:56).

The Prophet (SAW) further warned us not to become impatient. Have faith that at the right time, Allah will answer. 🕰

Possible Reasons For Delay in Responding to Dua

The great scholar Ibn Al-Jawzi analyzed potential reasons Allah may delay responding to dua:

  • It is a test requiring patience 🧘‍♀️ and fighting off Shaitan’s whispers. 🤫
  • The delay could be due to faults within ourselves requiring correction. For example, heedlessness in making dua 😴, neglecting obligatory acts 🙅, involvement in haram ⛔, broken family ties 👪, or impatience ⏱.
  • Allah’s wisdom and timing is beyond our understanding. Out of wisdom, He may delay due to reasons unclear to us. 🤔
  • Allah loves to hear us call upon Him and display our need for Him. 🤲

What to Do When Faced With Delayed Answers to Dua 🤲

Therefore, when faced with delayed answers, turn to Allah in faithful patience and continue making sincere dua. Do not despair of His vast mercy. Resist Shaitan’s whispers 🤫 and ponder ways to strengthen your relationship with Allah. Have good expectations 🙏, for with hardship comes ease. The wisdom behind the delay will become clear, InshaAllah.

Why Dua May Not Be Accepted

While Allah always responds to sincere dua, sometimes He may not accept and grant what is asked for in the dua. There are some key reasons dua may not be accepted:

  • Asking for something haraam or forbidden in Islam ⛔
  • Dua made while persisting in major sins without repentance 🙅
  • Disobeying Allah and His messenger 🙅
  • Dua made without conviction and hope in Allah’s mercy 🤲
  • Earning and consuming haraam sustenance 🍴
  • Severed ties of kinship and mistreatment of relatives 👪
  • Arrogance and pride in the heart 💅

Therefore, anytime dua seems unanswered, we should reflect inwardly and correct any shortcomings in our relationship with Allah. Do we have hope in Him? Are we obeying His commands? Is our sustenance halal? Making sincere tawbah and aligning our lives fully with the deen can remove obstacles to dua acceptance.

The doors of Allah’s mercy are never closed for the believer who turns to Him in repentance and humility, putting full trust in Him. Have patience, make constant istighfar, give charity, and continue beseeching your Lord. He is Ar-Rahman, the Most Merciful.
